Lactarius cimicarius (Batsch. ex Secr.) Gillet. Wässrigermilchling, Watery Milkcap. Cap 3–7cm across, flattened convex with saucer- or narrow funnel-shaped centre, sometimes with a low umbo, umber or chestnut sometimes a little paler towards the margin, surface dry, matt, wrinkled and often granular or lumpy, margin remaining incurved for some time, usually more or less furrowed. Stem 20–65 x 7–12mm, concolorous with cap or more usually more reddish brown, or paler. Flesh cinnamon-buff, thin in cap, stem hollow. Gills moderately decurrent, saffron to bricky or orangy cinnamon. Milk watery with a few white clouds; taste mild. Smell of bugs, oily. Spore print creamy (C) with a slight salmon tinge. Spores covered with warts up to 1.3µ high, joined by usually strong almost wing-like ridges to form a more or less complete network, 6.5–9 x 6–8µ. Cap surface cellular; gill margin with globose, ballon or club-shaped cells. Habitat under oak and beech. Season summer to autumn. Occasional. Not edible. Found In Europe. |
